It has been a long road for Colorado residents who want to bet sports online for real money, but the time has finally arrived. On May 1, 2020 four online sportsbooks went live in Colorado. Players can now bet on both professional and collegiate sporting events with a computer or mobile device.

Online sports betting legislation in Colorado is one of the most progressive in the United States. Any adult over the age of 21 who is within the state borders can make a sports bet with their phone or tablet. Residency is not required. Individuals can make their sports bets without the need to visit a physical sportsbook.

The residents of Colorado voted to approve legalized online sports betting in November of 2019. It did not take long for the state to set up the infrastructure needed to provide online sports betting. Wagering in Colorado is governed by the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission.

All online sportsbooks in the state are required to pay a licensing fee. Sportsbooks must also pay taxes on revenue that is earned. The money earned goes to support various state programs.

DraftKings, BetMGM, BetRivers, and FanDuel are the first sports betting providers that have been licensed to accept sports bets online in Colorado. More are expected to follow as Colorado issues additional online gaming licenses.
